About Us

What is Adult Education?

Adult Education is a place for people to accomplish things they didn't think they could - to be challenged and to grow. Our academic programs are individualized to the students' needs to help guide them through each step. Our enrichment program offers the opportunity to try something new or to teach others about your passions. Adult Education is here to help the community grow by providing education and training. Programs

This program offers classes that will enrich your life. Offerings include arts & crafts, fitness, gardening/farming and other unique and fun experiences. Most classes are offered in the spring and fall and can be found in our brochure or on our website

We are always looking for new classes to offer, so if you have a talent that you would like to share with others, let us know

This program provides preparation classes to ensure your success with each of the five tests that make up the HiSET® (which replaced the GED in the state of Maine). The HiSET® will measure your knowledge in five core areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each year, PVAEC holds a graduation for all of its HiSET® and High School Diploma students. It is always a well-attended event and a great experience for all those graduating. For those who take the HiSET® through the Adult Education program, preparation and testing is offered at no cost to the student.

This program is for anyone interested in completing their high school diploma. We evaluate your existing high school transcripts and determine how many classes you need to complete our diploma requirements. You may be closer to earning a high school diploma than you think! Each year, PVAEC holds a graduation for all of its HiSET® and High School Diploma students. It is always a well-attended event and a great experience for all those graduating.

Maine College and Career Access

Our program offers comprehensive support for individuals of all ages looking to transition into college-level courses or enhance their employability skills. We start with the Accuplacer placement test, which helps identify areas for improvement before starting college courses. Based on your test results, we offer College Transitions classes to enhance those skills and improve your placement test scores. If you need prerequisites like Algebra 1, Biology, or Chemistry, we provide these credit courses for free.

In addition to academic support, we offer workshops on financial aid, research skills, and APA/MLA formatting to prepare you for college-level work.

For those focusing on career readiness, we collaborate closely with the local Career Center and Eastern Maine Development Corporation. We provide financial assistance, job placement services, and career advising. Our program helps you upgrade your computer skills, refine your resume and cover letter, and improve your reading and math skills, all tailored to your desired job.

PVAEC provides equal opportunity in employment and programs.
