About Us

What is Adult Education?

Adult Education is a place for people to accomplish things they didn't think they could - to be challenged and to grow. Our academic programs are individualized to the students' needs to help guide them through each step. Our enrichment program offers the opportunity to try something new or to teach others about your passions. Adult Education is here to help the community grow by providing education and training. Programs

This program offers classes that will enrich your life. Offerings include arts & crafts, fitness, gardening/farming and other unique and fun experiences. Most classes are offered in the spring and fall and can be found in our brochure or on our website.

We are always looking for new classes to offer, so if you have a talent that you would like to share with others, let us know!

This program provides preparation classes to ensure your success with each of the five tests that make up the HiSET® (which replaced the GED in the state of Maine). The HiSET® will measure your knowledge in five core areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each year, PVAEC holds a graduation for all of its HiSET® and High School Diploma students. It is always a well-attended event and a great experience for all those graduating. For those who take the HiSET® through the Adult Education program, preparation and testing is offered at no cost to the student.

This program is for anyone interested in completing their high school diploma. We evaluate your existing high school transcripts and determine how many classes you need to complete our diploma requirements. You may be closer to earning a high school diploma than you think! Each year, PVAEC holds a graduation for all of its HiSET® and High School Diploma students. It is always a well-attended event and a great experience for all those graduating.

This program offers classes to assist people of all ages who wish to make the transition into college-level courses. We offer the Accuplacer, which is the placement test that local college/universities use. This test sees which areas you may need to improve before taking college courses. From these results, we can place you into our College Transitions classes to improve those skills and bring up those test results. If you need any prerequisites, such as Algebra 1, Biology, or Chemistry, we also offer these credit courses for free. We also provide workshops for financial aid, research, and APA/MLA formatting.

This program focuses on building skills to help you succeed in the workplace. We work very closely with the local Career Center and Eastern Maine Development Corporation to provide financial assistance, job placement, and career advising. We will help you upgrade your computer skills, write and resume and cover letter, and brush up on reading and math skills - all focused on the job that you want. Along with our Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA) and Commercial Drivers License Class B (CDL-B) courses, we work with the Academy of Medical Professions to offer other certificate training courses: Medical Coding, Medical Office Specialist, Dental Assisting, Group Fitness/Personal Training, and others.

PVAEC provides equal opportunity in employment and programs.
